OptumInsight, a San Jose-based health information exchange, needed a complete custom build starting from graphic design files (PSD) the client had already produced — meaning the work was translating a finished visual design into a real, functioning WordPress site rather than starting from a design brief.
What we built:
- Custom WordPress build from client PSDs — pixel-accurate implementation of finished design files, not a from-scratch design process
- Hand-coded homepage content slider — a custom plugin matching the exact design and behavior the mockups called for
- Hand-coded latest-news feed — built specifically for the site’s content needs rather than a generic off-the-shelf plugin
Working from finished PSD files is a different kind of project than a typical website design engagement — the visual decisions were already locked in, so the work centered entirely on faithful, pixel-accurate development.
Several plugins were hand-coded specifically for the site’s functionality, including a homepage content slider and a latest-news feed, rather than relying on generic off-the-shelf plugins that wouldn’t match the exact design and behavior the client’s mockups called for.
